My Experience with The Mentoring Club

This is a post of our mentor Pricilla about her experience with The Mentoring Club, how she found it, why it is an extremely valuable experience for her. She shares some good practices and advice for how to use the platform - both as a mentor and as a mentee. What is Mentoring? Mentoring is a relationship between two people in different aspects of life. A Mentor can guide in many ways: Professional, Personal, Emotional development. Fortunately one of my well-wishers and a good friend was listed as a mentor on their page. So I saw an option for applying as a Mentor. I did apply, I wasn’t sure if I would be accepted as a Mentor. Things changed dramatically in march 2020 when everybody was told to work from home whenever possible. I love creating things together with people, having whiteboard jams, and doing face-to-face meetings walking around the block or in the park. In the beginning, it felt as if the most important platform for leadership just disappeared: presence! Looking back I'd still say that I prefer working with people being in the same room and being able to collectively change locations for events such as meetings or team lunches. The Mentoring Club - our story in numbers

The story of The Mentoring Club began in March 2020 as an initiative during the first Corona Lockdown in Germany. Jessica Dewald and Bastian Buch published a Linkedin post offering their time as pro bono mentors to the public. In just a few days, they received dozens of registrations from interested mentees as well as numerous requests from their network to join the initiative and also donate time as mentors. In early April 2020, the founders crafted a simple website using Google Sites and a simple form to register for a session. They registered the domain mentoring-club.com and launched the website on April 12, 2020. In addition to the website, a Linkedin company profile was created to help share the initiative and the website to even more people, a designer from their network created a logo (which is the same logo they use today), and the idea behind the initiative was condensed as editorial contents for the website and to share with a broader audience.
